SOMAFM Groove Salad is BACK!.
SOMAFM returns to the online airwaves
Popular downbeat-techno online radio station SomaFM is back!
Thanks to everyone's help in writing to congress and encouraging them toLinkDiscuss [Boing Boing]
pass HR5469. About 10 days ago, it passed in both the House and Senate. (...)
This weekend, we're launching a new web site, and have now put most of
our core stations back on the air: Groove Salad, Secret Agent, Drone
Zone, Indie Pop Rocks! and Beat Blender. You can get to them from http://somafm.com.
More channels will follow as we rebuild our infrastructure.
We'll still need to come up with about $6500 (hopefully less, the final
rates are not agreed to, but we know that it shouldn't be more than
$6500 for previous years, and $2000 or 12% of our revenues (donations)
going forward. It's still a lot of money for what over the air radio
broadcasters get for free, but we can work with this, and stay in the
air.
YEAH! [deeje.com] Oh Baby !!!!!

More on WSDL Hard or not hard -- can we agree on "It's just not enough" ? :) [Clemens Vasters: Enterprise Development & Alien Abductions] Clemens makes some good points, I think WSDL will continue to live in that space where's its both doing too much, and not doing enough.

Is WSDL too hard? In response to Greg Reinacker's comments I didn't say WSDL is hard, I said its cumbersome and unproductive. Come on, its just angle brackets how hard can it be ??
PocketSOAP site Thanks to Kelley, the PocketSOAP site has had a bit of a make over. At some point I'll get a consistent design for both the site and the weblog, but don't hold your breath!.
SOAPscope Ships Thrilled that SOAPscope Personal 1.0 has been released! It can be purchased through the Mindreef website for only $99.[Mark Ericson's blog] Congrat's to Mark, Dave and the rest of the Mindreef folks on shipping SOAPScope.

Modeling without WSDL Mark Ericson has some thoughts on Interface design with WSDL, I agree with him, WSDL is far to cumbersome to work with by hand, the only way to be remotely productive is to use some sort of tool, personally I like Omniopera, YMMV. But it would be much better if we didn't have to resort to tools (This sounds strangely like the current debates over RDF). From what I've seen so far, WSDL 1.2 will be a step in the right direction, but I don't think it'll get to the level where easy to work with WSDL by hand. In the past I've prototyped SOAP interfaces in directly in IDL, and compiled that up into a type library for 4s4c to use and to generate WSDL from. In a lot of cases though WSDL generation tools suffer from leaky abstractions, you have to be really careful in this approach, that you don't inadvertently paint yourself into a corner, many tools are more than happy to take you down a non-interoperable path (just witness the number of questions about working with Microsoft's dataset's, or Apache's map serialization).

Managed Space The Redmondian monster seems to have eaten Peter nothing new on his blog since he started his new job. Fortunately Jason Whittington is filling in as the CLR blogger.
XML Files I see that Decembers XML Files includes a pointer to TcpTrace, thanks Aaron!
PocketSOAP 1.4 beta 2 Just released, there's one issue left with timeouts and SSL on PocketPC.

WS-* Sam has notes from Don's earlier webcast on WS-Routing, WS-Coordination & WS-Tx. I just wish the quality of the actual webcast was better, it peaked at around 100-110 participants, but the audio quality was poor & choppy all the way through. StreetFusion used to handle webcasts with way more participants [at least an order of manitude more], without any audio glitches.

SSL I'm working on what's hopefully the last problem for PocketSOAP 1.4, which is related to SSL on PocketPC. The timeout support recently added uses select, so I was dismayed to read this post about problems with SSL and select. sigh.

mac wireless woes continued Ovidiu Predescu and douglasp both emailed me to say they don't have the Mac wireless problems i'm seeing. What appears to happen is that the connection attempts from the apps that don't work just seems to timeout. I have location manager set-up with two locations, one that uses the wired ethernet port, and a second that uses the airport card, I have a linksys base station, and 128 bit encryption setup. Other apps such as Internet Explorer work fine, but when switched to the wireless config, iTunes for example will just sit there trying to connect to CDDB and eventually timeout. This is on 10.2.1, but i was also seeing exactly the same behaviour on 10.1.5. Any tips or suggestions appriciated!.
Cosmo Retro Intro Outro catching up on some email, the note about the Amon Tobin show prompted a few emails, one from Ethan Brown who has a top 5 producers item on his blog, Amon Tobin makes the list, as does Prefuse 73, who was playing support at the Amon Tobin show!. Mikel Maron said he was also at the show, and at the gusgus show at Bimbo's a few weeks back, which I also saw [was great], Bimbo's has really good shows, its probably my favorite venue in the city. And to round it off, the recent Underworld show at the Warfield was awesome, they don't seem to be suffering at all from Darren Emmerson leaving. BTW, for the Ninja tunes fans, Kid Koala is playing at the Justice League soon. Mikel mentioned the Devo show, which I didn't see, but Kelley saw it and said it was great.
